Description
The plantation home of Charles Pinckney is located at Snee Farm, now part of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Also, he had a large town house at 16 Meeting Street in Charleston. Purchased by his father in 1754, the land was inherited by Pinckney in 1782.
He was a delegate to the Continental Congress from November 1784- February 1787. Pinckney led the congressional effort to strengthen the national government, then operating under the Articles of Confederation. He, along with others including Alexander Hamilton and Virginia's James Madison were dissatisfied with the articles of Confederation and worked to have a Constitutional Convention.
Charles Pinckney, at age 29, was the second youngest delegate to the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia and a subsequent signer of the Constitution.
