Sunrise over the Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park in Historic Downtown Charleston SC
The Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park is one Charleston's most iconic landmarks.
In 1989, the City of Charleston started a project to create the park. However, four months later, Hurricane Hugo made landfall just north of the city as a Category 4 storm; producing the highest tide heights ever recorded along the East Coast.
After clearing the massive trees and tons of debris, construction continued and the park was finished in less than a year with the foutain becoming a symbol of Charleston restoring its glory and offering a glimmer of hope for a new normal.
Today, it is one of the most photographed landmarks in South Carolina.
